Happy 2025!
Extremely blessed with amazing people in my life, my friends and small group members are intentional about connecting with me on a regular basis. Feeling a part of the natural world is one of the benefits of walking or hiking outdoors almost every day. Consistency in prayer and devotions deepens my faith and connection with God. I like to be active but I would never be able to run three times every week without the partnership with my running buddy, Shannon. And plugging away with advertising for Three to Thrive Wellness Coaching brought me amazing clients last year, strengthening my passion for mind, body, and spirit wellness. These are a few ways that connection through consistency were my ‘words of the year’ for 2024.
Honestly, I have never been successful with New Years’ resolutions. “Lose 20 pounds or eat more vegetables”, are lofty goals without the staying power of daily habit changes. Linda, my pastor friend, introduced me to an alternative tradition of choosing a ‘word of the year.’ It can be a quality to develop, an adjective, or even a noun that comes to mind. Your “word of the year” is an idea or concept, and NOT a goal. I chose two words this year and the pairing of ‘connection’ with ‘consistency’ inspired friendships, gym workouts, and even work with my clients.
This practice takes some reflection and intention. But it is fascinating how the right word will reveal itself throughout your next 12 months.
To choose your word-
1: Brainstorm- Jot down any words that you immediately think of. Choose words that are powerful and positive.
2. Ask yourself questions- What is missing from your life? What, if any, lies do you tell yourself? What are your goals for your life? Add to or subtract from your list as necessary. Look for words that are deeply meaningful and apply to many different parts of life.
3. Narrow the list down- If you are left with more than one, consider focusing on one word per quarter instead one for the whole year.
4. Write it down- Find a way to remember and refer to your word every day. Consider journaling your discoveries.
My recent words of the year: 2024- Connection and Consistency; 2023- Compassion; 2022- Nourish
A single word to focus on throughout the year will inspire your entire life and affect everything you do- how you react to others, how you care for yourself, and how you prioritize your life. Your one little word will be a gentle reminder about your priorities and should help you refocus through the year. Let me know what word you chose!
May your new year be peaceful and healthy,
~Trish
