The Story I Am Telling Myself..

What do you believe about yourself or your life?

What are your thoughts focused on- The past, present, or future? What you can or can’t control? What you have or what you don’t have?

How do you speak to yourself in your mind? Self-talk can be a thought you repeat often and turn into a belief. This self-belief can be a superpower used for good or evil.

I love my husband for calling me out on some of my limiting beliefs. “I am not good with math.” “I’m not really a runner.” And most recently, “I am not an entrepreneur.” These stories are on repeat in my head even though I am starting a business, I run 2-3x per week and I can figure out our waitress’s tip without a calculator (my best hack is to move the decimal over then double it). What if you could use this power for good? What if you truly believed you were a person who regularly exercises?  What could you be capable of doing if you said to yourself, “I am a person who takes a few minutes every morning to center myself.” Then when the excuses come (and that resistance WILL appear), you can meet them with consistency.

When you commit to making time for change, some part of you is going to resist. “I’m too tired.” “My back hurts.” “There are too many distractions.” “I have too much to do.” “I’ll start tomorrow.” These are the familiar thoughts that keep us in old behavior ruts and will literally keep us from changing. When that resistance arises, remind yourself who you are.

JOURNAL ACTIVITY:

1. Identify an unhelpful story you have on repeat

– Say it out loud a few times

– Write down how you feel. What happens to your energy levels? Your confidence?

– How does your body feel? What emotion arises?

2. Now identify a more supportive story that IS true for you.

– Say this out loud a few times

– What do you notice?

3. Consider what story you would like to believe about yourself

-What would it look like to be this person?

-Who in your life can best encourage this version of you? Ask them for support.
